IFSEA students at the 19th Assises de l’économie de la mer on November 19 and 20, 2024

The 19th Assises de l’économie de la mer, a key event for the French maritime community, is being held this year under the theme of the maritime economy in transition. It’s a fitting theme, given the rapid pace of change in the world today, and the vital need for the maritime sector, a historic pillar of globalization, to adapt.
Twelve students from six IFSEA masters programs (EMAH, PAUL, MCM, MPM, ICL and SIDE, from the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale and the Université d’Artois), accompanied by EUR director Frida Lasram, had the opportunity to attend this event, held on November 19 and 20, 2024 in Bordeaux.Decarbonization, energy transition, transformation of ports and industrial-port zones, maritime conflicts, sea and coastal planning, marine renewable energies, coastal erosion, dredged sediment reclamation, artificial intelligence, cyber security and the blue economy: these were just some of the topics addressed during the round tables, cross-examinations and speeches.

The students had the opportunity to exchange views with Mr. Fabrice Loher, Minister Delegate for the Sea and Fisheries, who gave a speech on the themes of food sovereignty based on seafood products, fishing, marine renewable energies, the role of science in decision-making, marine protected areas, logistics, decarbonization and major international objectives.
An undeniably formative immersion that not only enabled students to enrich their understanding of the global challenges facing the maritime sector, but also to strengthen their network through exchanges with key players in the industry.
